Content covered in this Substitution with Algebraic Expressions lesson:
Concepts you will learn in this Substitution with Algebraic Expressions lesson:
- Finding an algebraic expression’s value
- Learn how to determine the value of an algebraic expressions when given the value of the variables in the expression using substitution.
- Learn to use the correct order of operations (BEDMAS) when simplifying the expression after substituting the variables’ values into the expression.
- Learn to determine the value of the algebraic expression by substitution when the values of the variables are integers (both positive and negative).
Lesson format:
- During the video, I spend time teaching and explaining about the concepts covered in the lesson.
- I give full examples where I show you how to answer problems, showing all working out.
- You will have a chance to work on practice examples with a timer – this will help you to get used to working with a time limit (a necessary skill for when you need to do tests and exams).
- I go through all the practice examples in detail after you have had time to complete them, so that you can see how you did – and where you went wrong if you made mistakes.

The worksheet includes the examples I go through in the lesson – and in some cases there may be sections that you can fill in on the worksheet instead of needing to copy everything down during the lesson (like tables etc).
The worksheet also comes with an extra exercise for you to use to practice the concepts taught in this lesson after you have finished the video.
Additionally, the worksheet includes answer sheets – with fully worked out solutions, so you can check your work and see how to complete the problems in the exercise step-by-step.
